Hi!

I’m Merel, a London based production buyer with over a decade of experience in the industry, and 7 years since I specialised in buying. I get asked a lot what I want to do next, and wether I would like to become a set dec, but I completely love my job and know that buying is the right place for me and my skills!

I have experience in all formats but have mostly worked on longer running TV series and feature films. I don’t mind one bit being stuck behind my desk on a big film making sure the department runs smoothly, and equally love to be more practical and hands on with sourcing strange and beautiful things on smaller jobs.

Of course I know the prophouses inside out, I run a tight ship with the budget, PO’s and liaising with Props to get everything collected. I’m a spreadsheet wizard, I’m there to ease the load of the Set Dec wherever possible, and to assist and guide the rest of the team. I love meticulous research and take on dealing with specialists like Home Ec, Animal wranglers and Greens.

For me, the most important part of whichever job I take on is the team I work with. In an industry this hard, I love to be surrounded by supportive people and be the same support to others. I’m calm, and keep my cool under pressure. I will work independently in liaising with the supervising art director, accounts and production on all things concerning our department and the budget.
